Kenneth H. Handin appointed as pupil personnel services director at Scotia-Glenville Schools; Thomas Fyvie named HS dean of students

The Board of Education today appointed Kenneth H. Handin of Albany to the position of director of pupil personnel services at Scotia-Glenville. His 2008-09 salary will be $96,000. He replaced Anthony Albanese, who resigned to accept a superintendent of schools position in the Margaretville Central School District in Delaware County.

Handin is currently the director of special education at the Stillwater Central School District since April 2007. Before that, he was chairperson of the

Committee on Special Education at Scotia-Glenville from September 2001 until March 2007.

Before that, he served as associate and executive director for planning and development and assistant executive director for day services at St. Catherine's Center for Children in Albany from 1981 to 2001.

He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the State University of NY at Albany and a master's in education psychology and statistics from SUNY Albany. He is working on a PhD. in educational psychology and statistics from SUNY Albany.

The Board of Education also named Thomas W. Fyvie as the dean of students at the high school. The salary for his 11-month position will be $72,000 for the 2008-09 school year. He succeeds Brian Spofford, who resigned to become an assistant principal at the North Colonie CSD.

Fyvie is currently an instructional coach at the Elmer Avenue Elementary School in Schenectady and was previously a physical education teacher at Elmer. Before that, he was dean of students at Scotia-Glenville Middle School in 2003 and was a teaching assistant for three years at Scotia-Glenville High School.

He holds a bachelor's degree in secondary education from the State University of New York College at Oswego and a master's in educational administration from SUNY at Albany.
