Letter
from Susan Swartz regarding H1N1 and season flu
October 2009

program allows parents to deposit money directly into
their child's breakfast and/or lunch account using a
credit card or PayPal account. |
- All
students will be released from school 15 minutes early on
Tuesday, Nov. 10, as part of the annual Go Home Early Drill.
The purpose of the early release is to test the communications
and transportation parts of the emergency response plan.

School play Nov. 6-8
The Scotia-Glenville
High School Drama Club presents Agatha Christie's "Witness
for the Prosecution" on November 6th and
7th at 7:30 pm and November 8th
at 2:00 pm in the high school auditorium.
Admission
is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and senior
citizens.

- Glendaal's Meet
the Teacher Night has been rescheduled to Thursday, Oct.
1, from 6:30-8 p.m. It was previously scheduled for Sept.
24, but that conflicted with the Meet the Teacher Night
at the High School.
School
begins on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for all students in grades 1-12.
Kindergarten students begin full days on Sept. 11.

The
Board of Education has decided not to fill the vacancy created
by Brian McCann's
resignation.
The seat will remain empty until the May 18, 2010 community
vote. At that point, one of the seats up for election would
be for the remaining one-year of McCann's term. In 2011,
the candidate would have to seek re-election for a full
three-year term.

2009-10 budget
Spending plan adopted on March 30 includes a 1.7 percent
spending increase and at least a 0.5 percent tax decrease.

Community to consider two propositions that would upgrade
the track, replace roofs and public address systems and
renovate and expand the middle school library.
Gary
Normington and John Yagielski unopposed for
re-election to the Board of Education.

state requires schools to release this information regarding
their 2009 budgets and the most recent report cards
(in PDF). Hard copies are available at the schools,
District Office and the Scotia and Glenville braches of
the Schenectady County library system.

Swartz to meet with parents about full-day kindergarten
at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Sacandaga
Elementary School. This meeting was rescheduled
from Jan. 7 because of the weather.
- New
Science Research Course beginning in 2009-2010 to be discussed
on Dec. 2. Next year's sophomores are eligible

During
the Board of Education's organizational meeting July 14, Margaret
Smith was re-elected to a fifth one-year term as president
of the Board of Education by a 4-3 vote, defeating Ben Conlon.
Gary Normington, entering his third year on the board, was
elected vice president by a 5-2 vote over Pam Carbone.
