Scotia-Glenville did not show President Obama's speech to school children when it was delivered live on Tuesday, Sept. 8 - the first day back to school for the district's 3,000 students. Instead, it was recorded and is being made available to teachers. Some have indicated that they will show the speech in their classrooms, where a discussion would be held regarding it. President Obama's speech will be included as part of a school-wide assembly on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Middle School. It will be an assembly about encouraging students to focus on doing their best work and creating a safe school environment. It will be followed by a DVD on bullying prevention, part of the school's Stand Up to Bullying Campaign. The entire assembly will be followed by discussions in classes. Principal Shari Keller is sending home letters to all parents informing them of President Obama's speech and telling parents they can opt their child out of the part of the assembly in which the president's speech is being shown. That letter may be read here. Here is President Obama's speech to students in Arlington, Virginia on C-Span |
