Special Meeting Minutes

 

A Special Meeting of the Board of Education of the Scotia-Glenville Central School District was held in the Board Room of the District Office, in said district on July 23, 2007.

 

President of the Board of Education Margaret Smith called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.

 

Present:      Ahnert, Benedetto, Carbone, Conlon, Normington, Smith, Yagielski, Superintendent Swartz, and School Business Manager Giaquinto.

 

Absent:        Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kavanaugh

 

MOVED by Carbone that the Board of Education adjourn to Executive Session in order to discuss

matters relating to personnel and/or negotiations.

The Board adjourned to Executive Session at 6:15 p.m. and returned to Open Session at 7:25 p.m.

ELECTION OF VICE PRESIDENT OF BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR THE 2007-2008 SCHOOL

YEAR

 

President Smith called for nominations for the office of Vice President of the Board of Education for

the 2007-2008 school year.

 

Mr. Ahnert nominated Pamela Carbone for the office of Vice President of the Board of Education for

the 2007-2008 school year.  Mr. Conlon nominated Gary Normington for the office of Vice President

of the Board of Education for the 2007-2008 school year.  Mr. Normington declined the nomination.  A

Roll Call was taken for the nomination of Pamela Carbone for the office of Vice President of the

Board of Education for the 2007-2008 school year.

AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE BOARD OF EDUCATION - SCOTIA-GLENVILLE CENTRAL

SCHOOL DISTRICT AND DODGE CHAMBERLIN LUZINE WEBER ASSOCIATES ARCHITECTS

LLP

 

MOVED by Yagielski that the Board of Education designate Dodge Chamberlin Luzine Weber

Associates Architects LLP as the architect for the Glendaal Project consistent with the terms and

conditions of the AIA Agreement, as submitted.  (This agreement is contained as Appendix A to

these minutes).

DISCUSSION:  UPDATE ON POTENTIAL BUILDING PROJECT

 

Superintendent Swartz provided the Board with an update on the plans for Glendaal Elementary School.  She also discussed potential roofing projects and the District Office property.  The Board discussed the Building Project issue and will continue to discuss this item at future meetings.

 

DISCUSSION:  NEW YORK STATE SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION ANNUAL CONVENTION

 

The Board discussed which members will be attending the Annual Convention.

 

ADOPT THE POLICY STATEMENT FOR 2007-2008 FREE AND REDUCED PRICE MEALS OR

FREE MILK

 

MOVED by Conlon that the Board of Education adopt the Free and Reduced Price Meals or Free Milk

Policy Statement and authorize the School Board President to sign the Certificate of Acceptance.

APPROVE CLASSROOM RENTAL & ANCILLARY SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH BOCES

 

Approve a classroom rental and ancillary services agreement with the Capital Region BOCES for

2007-2008 (for lease of six classrooms and the Distance Learning classroom), as submitted, and

authorize the President of the Board to execute same.  (This agreement is contained as Appendix C

to these minutes).

 a. Accept the letter of resignation of Susan Champlin, Special Education Teacher (Middle School), effective July 10, 2007, with appreciation for her service to the district.  (This resignation is contained as Appendix D to these minutes).  

 

Routine Business

 

       a.  Staffing

 

    1)  Approve the probationary appointment of Amy E. Casella as Elementary Teacher (Grade 6, Middle School), effective September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2010, with 2007-2008 annual salary to be at $38,909   (Step 2 +M +22).  Ms. Casella has initial certification. This appointment is conditioned on the school districtÕs receipt of clearance for the employee from the State Education Department following a criminal history records check in accordance with the provisions of Education Law 3035.

 

    2)  Approve the probationary appointment of Aimee E. Cusack as Guidance Counselor (Middle School), effective September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2010, with 2007-2008 annual salary to be at $37,600 (Step 1 +M) and further approve her supplemental appointment as Guidance Counselor, with 2007-2008 stipend at $2,650.  Ms. Cusack has provisional certification. 

 

    3)  Approve the following additional employees at the rate of 1/200 of their 2006-2007 annual salary for each full day of service this summer:
