Parents of incoming kindergarten students will receive a letter during the week of Aug. 10 detailing the first few days of school for their children in September. Kindergarten students will NOT attend school at all on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when the rest of the students will begin school. On Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 9 and 10, they and their parents will be scheduled to come into the classroom for a visit on one of those days. Kindergarten students will attend full day beginning on Friday, Sept. 11. In the mailing to be received this week, parents will be scheduled for specific times during which they may come to visit the classrooms and teachers on Sept. 9 and 10. The mailing will also include the child's teacher's name and a supply list for the coming school year. This transition period is being provided as a way of easing kindergartners into the full-day routine. For the past 10 years, Scotia-Glenville had a Transitional Kindergarten program in which students attended for half days from September until January and then full-time from January to June. As part of the discussions with the community this spring, several parents asked that a transition period be provided before children begin attending school for full days. |
